Registering with my PIN number. What is it and how do I get it?
For your identification protection, you have been designated a PIN rather than having to use your social security number. You can get your PIN by calling the Office of Alumni Relations at 973-655-4141. In addition, within the e-mail notification that a new issue of the alumni newsletter, Connections, is available, we provide you with your PIN number for convenience in registering with the online community."
I registered without my PIN number and I still cant access the online community. Why?
When you register without a PIN number, you will need to wait about a day or two for your registration to be validated. (Your name, degree, etc. will need to be confirmed through a database.) You will be notified via e-mail when the validation process has been completed.
I dont receive e-mails about events or the newsletter but I am registered in the Online Community. Why?
In your profile, you must indicate that you do wish to receive e-newsletters and updates by filling in the prompt next to Mailing List that says "Yes! I want to receive Alumni E-Newsletters and updates."
Can everyone view my personal information like my address and phone number?
You may set your own privacy levels. If you wish to "hide" selected data, such as your home phone number, from view in the directory, check the "Hide?" box that appears to the left of that piece of information.
If you wish to be completely invisible to all alumni readers, select "Check here to hide yourself." Please note that you will not be listed in the online directory at all if you check this box.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
If you have forgotten your password or username to our online community click on the link on the Login page that says "Retrieve your username and password." You will be forwarded to another page that asks you to enter the e-mail address you originally registered with. An automated e-mail will be sent to that address with your password. This is not a manual operation done by staff. It is strictly electronic and no one else will have had access to your password.
How do I change my password?
Go to either "View My Profile" or "Update My Profile." At the bottom left-hand corner is a link to "Change My Password," which will take you to an easy-to-change prompt.
I have not graduated yet. Can I still get into the Online Community?
Unfortunately, no. At this time, we are unable to allow access to the online community to anyone other than official alumni. However, you are encouraged to return to this site once you have earned your degree.
I uploaded a picture of myself that I want to use for my profile page but I dont see it yet. Why not?
All photos must go through an approval process before they will be posted. To begin the process, click on "Select Your Photo" option (found on your profile page) and follow the steps described. You will receive an e-mail when the approval process has been completed. Once you have received the approval notification, you may go back to the photo selection option on you profile page and the picture will be available there. Simply choose the "Set Photo" option and your picture will be placed on your profile page.
What is the difference between being a member of the Online Community and a member of the Alumni Association?
The Online Community is a free, electronic, interactive way of communicating with Montclair State University alumni. The Alumni Association is a dues-supported organization that exists to engage, connect and celebrate alumni through activities like regional group and chapter events, career networking services, awards, reunions and more. Membership dues support programming, campus initiatives and scholarships.
You do not have to be a member of the Online Community to become a member of the Alumni Association and vice versa. They are independent of each other.
What do I do if Ive searched for someone in the Alumni Directory and they are not listed? Why isnt the person listed and how can I get in touch with him/her?
Not all of Montclair States alumni are registered in the Online Community which is an opt-in database. Or, the classmate you are looking for may have already registered but has chosen to keep all or portions of his/her personal information private and unavailable for other users to view in the directory. If you would like to get in touch with someone, you can contact the Office of Alumni Relations with your request to "Find a Friend" via e-mail at alumni@mail.montclair.edu or by calling 973-655-4141. The office can check the Universitys database and contact the person for you to let them know you are looking for him/her. We can not give out personal information like phone numbers or e-mail addresses.
What if I still have questions?
If you are experiencing a technical difficulty you may click on the "Technical Support" link at the bottom of the page. You will be directed to an automated questionnaire which will be sent to the host of the Online Community, IAC. All other inquiries may be directed to alumnionline@mail.montclair.edu or by calling the Office of Alumni Relations, 973-655-4141.
